I've been struggling the last couple of weeks with the question of how much sex is too much in a novel. I mean, if the sex is integral to the plot, then really no amount is too much, but I don't want to just beef up the erotic content in my books just to. That's just not me. When I decided to begin writing New Adult books, at first I thought that I needed to go the same direction as a lot of other authors and be as sexy as possible, but the more I write, the more I realize that's just not me.
That isn't to say that there aren't going to be sultry scenes in my books. (Please don't misunderstand!) They're romantic novels. Of course there are. You don't want to meet the hot guy and then not "meet" the hot guy, if you know what I mean. But I believe there's a way to pull off those scenes and have them be sexy and exciting without being crude. And personally, I always find scenes most titillating when I'm reading about fully developed, interesting characters anyway.
So, I hope that you will agree and come along with me as I take this ride into New Adult writing. The books are going to be exciting and flirty. It's going to be a lot of fun.
