I, J.L. Fynn, have a secret. Or, rather, I am a secret.
See, it says so in the beginning of my bio:
J.L. Fynn is the public face of a private identity. She enjoys making up stories about iniquitous heroes, providing Delphic answers to unasked questions, and obfuscating the truth just for laughs. But then, what’s an author but a professional liar?
But I’m tired of all of that. I’m ready to take off my mask, let it all hang out (or most of it, anyway), and show you who I really am. Here I go.
K, I’m taking it off. (This is fun.)
Hey, what the hell is that?
Or should I say, who the hell is that?
But there’s two of us!
That’s the second part of my secret—or should I say, our secret. J.L. Fynn is the pen name not for one person, but for two.
J.L. Fynn is actually the writing duo of Katherine Ernst and Chelle Bruhn. Who are we? We’ve been best friends since we were 14, have been writing together since we were 15, and have been pursuing writing professionally for the last three years.
So why all the subterfuge?
Well, we have an agent who handles our Young Adult novels, but more recently, we’d gotten excited about the New Adult category and really wanted to jump on board.
But we were worried. What if publishers considering our Young Adult books ran across our New Adult stuff? We didn’t want to confuse them and scare them away. (Editors at publishing houses are kind of like wild cats—you have to approach them with your palms up and not make any sudden movements.) So we thought. Pen name. Brilliant!
Which it was. Sort of. We still don’t think it was a terrible idea, but the closer we get to Oct. 7 (the release date for our debut novel, The Long Game, which you can read all about below), the more we’re talking to readers interested in the book, and the more difficult it is to keep it under wraps that J.L. Fynn isn’t one person, but two.
So we thought we’d just come clean. Surprise! It’s a girl…and another girl!
Nice to finally meet all of you. And anyway, Chelle was tired of sweating her face off in that mask.
Now, more about our book The Long Game which is available TODAY!
Smooth-talking. Ambitious. Loyal.
Twenty-year-old Shay Reilly has proven himself to his Irish-American Gypsy clan on small-scale cons, but now the clan leader has a bigger mission for him: playing the long game.
To rake in the big score he’s after, he needs to con co-ed Spencer into falling in love with him. He knows he should see Spencer as a mere means to an end, but that’s easier said than done when there’s a witty, attractive girl in your arms.
Now the only thing that can keep them apart is the thing that brought them together: Shay’s plans of revenge against someone who wronged his clan and family years before—Spencer’s father.
